If you are under the age of 18 when you arrive in Denmark, you are to attend a Reception classe (modtagerklasse)
The purpose of the Reception classe is to teach you to speak Danish. Aside from the Danish lessons you will be taking other classes such as Math and English. Your classes will end once you:
- are linguistically and academically ready to attend a different educational program
- once you turn 18 and thus have to attend a different educational program.
Your teachers and Educational Planner will help guide you towards the educational program best suited to you, once you complete the modtagerklasse.
Reception classes in public schools (if your child has little or no knowledge of Danish)
Your child can attend a reception class from the age of 6 to the age of 17, and enrolment can happen at any time during the academic year.
There are fewer children in a reception class than in an ordinary class, so the teacher has more time for each pupil.
As reception classes are part of the municipal public school system, attending one is a cost-free option.
When you move to Aarhus, you must apply for reception class enrollment. Pedagogy, Leisure & Education will receive your application.
